Citywide Protests for Palestine
On Monday, citizens across Karachi organized rallies, processions, conferences, and seminars to express solidarity with the people of Palestine and condemn Israeli actions in Gaza, marking one year of ongoing conflict. Participants included schoolchildren, women, and various political groups, all united in their support for Palestine.
Political Solidarity in the Sindh Assembly
In the Sindh Assembly, provincial legislators, led by Speaker Awais Qadir Shah, publicly expressed their support for Palestine. Shah emphasized that despite political and ideological differences, all political parties in Pakistan stand together for the Palestinian cause.
Jamaat-i-Islami Rally
At Power House Chowrangi in North Karachi, the Jamaat-i-Islami organized a rally addressed by Karachi chief Monem Zafar. He stated that the entire nation supports the Palestinians and noted that the Israeli regime has killed nearly 45,000 innocent Palestinians, primarily women and children, as a retaliation for its perceived defeats.
Solidarity Events at Educational Institutions
The Islami Jamiat Talaba hosted a Palestine Solidarity Walk at the University of Karachi, demonstrating the involvement of students in the movement.
Journalists Protest Israeli Atrocities
A significant protest was held by journalists marching from the Karachi Press Club to the Governor House. They condemned the recent Israeli bombardments that have resulted in the deaths of numerous journalists. Supported by organizations like the Karachi Union of Journalists and the Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists, they called on the United Nations and human rights organizations to intervene.
KPC Secretary Shoaib Ahmed praised the courage of Palestinian journalists, urging the UN to hold Israel accountable for its actions against media personnel in conflict zones.
Youth Involvement
The Markazi Muslim League organized a rally on Shahrah-i-Quaideen primarily for schoolchildren. Many young participants carried Palestinian flags and posters of Hamas leaders, voicing their support for Palestine.
The Jamiat Ahl-i-Hadees also held a “National Palestine Conference” on the same road, emphasizing the need for collective action against Israeli policies.
Women’s March for Unity
Hundreds of women and children participated in a rally from Numaish intersection to Tibet Centre, organized by Tehreek-e-Bedari-e-Ummat-e-Mustafa. They carried placards and banners denouncing Israeli actions and called for unity among Muslim nations.
The Majlis Wahdat-i-Muslimeen also organized a solidarity rally, which included a candlelit vigil at Numaish intersection. Leaders condemned Israeli actions as rooted in an ideology that dehumanizes Palestinians.
